The Opportunity

The City of St. Albert Emergency Services Department is currently seeking a qualified and knowledgeable individual to join the Training Department in the position of Training Officer II.

Reporting to the Chief Training Officer, this position is responsible for the coordination and delivery of emergency services training activities of the fire department. It will research, develop and deliver specialized technical knowledge through instruction, and evaluate individual demonstration and competency in fire suppression, rescue, emergency response and mitigation disciplines. It will deliver training courses and programs consistent with the accredited entity and the Accreditation and Certification Alberta NFPA Certification Program.

Qualifications

Training Officer II
  • 8 years of emergency response experience
  • 3 years of relevant training experience
  • NFPA 1001 Level 1 & 2
  • NFPA 1002 Level 4, 5, & 6
  • NFPA 1021 Level 1 Fire Officer
  • NFPA 1041 Level 1 Fire Services Instructor
  • NFPA 470 Awareness & Operations
  • NFPA 1521 Safety Officer
  • ICS 100 & 200
  • Blue Card Command
  • Experience with lesson plan development
  • Experience with the Microsoft Office suite of products
  • Primary Care Paramedic designation is an asset

Training Officer I
  • 5 years of emergency response experience
  • 1 year of relevant training experience
  • NFPA 1001 Level 1 & 2
  • NFPA 1002 Level 4, 5, & 6
  • NFPA 1021 Level 1 Fire Officer
  • NFPA 1041 Level 1 Fire Services Instructor
  • NFPA 470 Awareness & Operations
  • NFPA 1521 Safety Officer
  • ICS 100 & 200
  • Blue Card Command
  • Experience with lesson plan development
  • Experience with the Microsoft Office suite of products
  • Primary Care Paramedic designation is an asset

Hours of Work

This position will follow the schedule of the Chief Training Officer, working eight (8) ten (10) hour days in a two-week period; however, the successful incumbent may elect to work a schedule consisting of ten (10) eight (8) hour days.

The department operates 24/7/365 days per year; consequently, after hours and on-call work may be required to support operations.

Compensation

Training Officer II
$128,038.88 per annum

Training Officer I
$116,588.25 per annum
