The Opportunity
We are currently recruiting an Environmental Event and Program Assistant to be part of the Environment team. This position will assist with community environmental parks events and programs. The primary focus of this position will be to:
- Provide information to residents on environmental park events and programs.
- Assist in Spruce Up St. Albert program and event organization: registration, communications with partners, volunteer scheduling, and coordination of materials for events.
- Support environmental outreach efforts by staffing information booths at events, conducting informational sessions and presentations for residents and community groups on various green initiatives including environment bylaws, native pollinator programming, invasive species and naturalization programming.
- Assist with the administration of energy efficiency programming.
- Assist Environment staff with additional natural area and water monitoring activities as they arise (i.e. water quality sampling, invasive species removal)
- Assist in data entry for water quality sampling program
- Assist with grant writing as required, conduct primary literature research as necessary, and help conduct vegetation surveys on city-owned properties.
The ideal candidate should be professional, personable, and possess strong organizational and time management skills.
Qualifications
- This position requires a high school diploma, with preference given to applicants enrolled or graduated in a related Environmental Sciences, or applied science post secondary education program
- Must be physically able to lift moderate loads up to 50 pounds (i.e. folding tables, tents)
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications including SharePoint.
- Experience in environmental programs, customer service, GIS, and strong communication and engagement skills are assets.
- The individual must be personable and professional with strong organizational and time management skills.
- A valid Class 5 driver’s license and access to a personal vehicle for work use are required.
Hours of Work
We offer a work schedule of up to 40 hours per week. The bulk of the hours will be weekdays, but applicants must be able to work a flexible schedule as start, and end times may change based on work requirements. Some evenings, weekends and a one-stat holiday will be required.
Compensation
$21.56-$25.75 per hour based on qualifications and experience.
