Position Overview:

As a Full-Time Summer STEAM Instructor, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality, hands-on STEAM programming in a dynamic camp environment. You will lead camp participants through engaging science, technology, engineering, art, and culinary arts activities that encourage curiosity, problem-solving, and critical thinking. The ideal candidate is an enthusiastic leader who is proactive in planning, adaptable to changing situations, and passionate about working with young learners. You will play a key role in fostering a safe, inclusive, and positive experience for campers while collaborating with fellow instructors and leadership staff. Additionally, you will serve as an ambassador for IDEA Lab Kids, engaging with families, answering questions, and ensuring that every child leaves with an inspiring and educational experience.

This role requires a strong ability to manage groups of children, facilitate creative learning experiences, and provide outstanding customer service to participants and their families. Key Responsibilities:

· Prepare for daily and weekly planned activities following each planned weekly camp theme. This includes preparing and organizing required materials and supplies.

· Lead and supervise participants (ages 5-12) through daily schedule of hands-on STEAM activities which may include various lessons, experiments, crafts, and games.

· Deliver a pre-designed curriculum while incorporating creative and interactive teaching methods.

· Develop supplementary activities and experiments and adapt lesson plans to accommodate diverse learning styles, abilities, supplies and time.

· Manage camp participants’ behaviour appropriately to effectively deal with disruptions and ensure safety and respectful behaviour is followed by all children.

· Create a safe, inclusive, fun learning environment supporting all children.

· Communicate with parents/guardians about their children’s experiences, providing meaningful feedback and updates.

· Manage classroom materials, maintain a clean, organized campus, and ensure program readiness.

· Support IDEA Lab Kids’ commitment to inclusivity by integrating various perspectives and ensuring accessibility for all learners.

· Work collaboratively with other instructors, and leadership staff.

· Demonstrate flexibility, kindness and respect when working with children at IDEA Lab.

· Serve as an ambassador for IDEA Lab Kids, engaging with families and answering questions.

· Ensure the safety and well-being of all students, and execute emergency procedures as needed.

· Maintain attendance record of camp group participants throughout the camp day.

· Cleaning and organization of camp spaces used throughout the day, including clean up at the end of the day.

· Other duties as assigned

Knowledge:

· General knowledge of scientific principles and STEAM-related fields.

· Strong understanding of child-centered instructional strategies for ages 5-12.

· Understanding of best practices in classroom and lab safety.

· Familiarity with coding or programming concepts is an asset but not required.

Skills:

· Strong leadership and teamwork abilities, including instructing and mentoring children.

· Excellent communication skills to foster an inclusive and engaging learning environment.

· Adaptability and creativity in lesson delivery to enhance learning experiences.

· Effective classroom management and leadership in a dynamic learning environment.

· Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to modify lesson plans to meet student needs.

· Experience and comfort in public speaking, instructional delivery, or interactive group facilitation.

· Passion for working in a high-performing team with a commitment to continuous learning and growth.

Qualifications:

· Experience working with children in an educational, recreational, or camp setting is required.

· Experience in science education, children’s education and activities, or a related field is an asset.

· Pursuing post-secondary education in science, technology, education, or a related field is preferred.

· Current Standard First Aid Level C with CPR & AED certification (or willingness to obtain prior to employment).

· Clear Police Record Check including Vulnerable Sector Screening is mandatory for employment
