The granting of Freedom of the City is the highest honour a municipality can grant a regiment. This ceremony allows a unit to march through the city to recognize links between a community and a particular military unit. A Freedom of the City Parade includes an official ceremony where the Mayor of a City and the Commanding Officer of the honoured Unit or Regiment re-enacts the historic rite of allowing a formed military unit to march through a city with “Drums Beating, Bayonets Fixed and Colours Flying".
St. Albert will be hosting the Freedom of the City celebration and parade on June 11,2011.
