ASSISTANT MANAGER, FACILITIES SERVICES St. Albert Public Schools is currently seeking applications for a self-motivated individual to work as a Full -Time, Probationary , Assistant Manager of Facilities Services to work in the operations of the division's facilities. This position is considered Exempt.More than 9000 students are enrolled in St. Albert Public Schools.
From Preschool to Grade 12, our students learn and succeed in programs that are recognized for excellence and their focus on citizenship and sound values. Hours of Work: 35 hrs./week, 7 hrs./day Monday-Friday, Full-Time, ProbationarySalary: $96,000**includes a comprehensive benefits package including, health care, dental, vision, extended disability, health spending/wellness account, and Local Authorities Pension Plan Start Date: To be determined BASIC FUNCTION To supervise and evaluate the custodians and caretakers in accordance with division policies;To establish caretaking standards and processes for the consistent sanitation of all division facilities;To be knowledgeable about and to make acquisitions or replacement of caretaking equipment and supplies, and make recommendations to the Manager, Facilities Services as required;To organize and supervise the grounds maintenance program;To supervise and contract as required snow removal and parking lot sweeping;To supervise and contract as required repairs to parking lots, sidewalks and fences;To undertake assigned facility projects. RELATIONSHIPS Reports to the Manager, Facilities ServicesSupervision of school custodians, caretakers and groundskeepersCommunicates with: Division Office staff;School Administrators;Teaching and support staff;Suppliers;Contractors. IMPACT The prime impacts of this position include: The quality of the learning and working environments for staff and students;The safety of the cleaning processes and products;The facility caretaking costs over the short and long term.
WORKING CONDITIONS Work beyond normal office hours as required in response to the needs of the (evening) caretaking shifts;On-site resolution of caretaking problems at the schools. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Effective communication and organizational skills;At least five years of supervisory experience;Experience in a school division/educational setting would be an asset;Ability to work in a team environment, with effective interpersonal and conflict resolution skills;Extensive knowledge of caretaking processes and standards;Knowledge of facility mechanical and maintenance processes including landscaped areas;A journeyman certification(s) would be an asset. RESPONSIBILITIES Supervise and evaluate custodians and caretakers in accordance with division policies;Develop a facility minor maintenance program to be implemented by the custodians and caretakers on a continuing basis;Schedule custodian and caretaker staff vacations to minimize operational impacts to division facilities;Monitor absences and overtime work by custodians and caretakers on an ongoing basis, and make related recommendations to the Manager, Facilities Services as required;Establish and monitor caretaking standards and processes to ensure consistent sanitation of all division facilities on a reliable and predictable basis;Develop a program for the maintenance and repair of caretaking and grounds equipment on a planned cyclical basis;Under the direction of the Manager, Facilities Services, make acquisitions relating to the replacement of grounds, caretaking equipment and supplies;Organize the development of custodian, caretaker and groundskeeper training and safety programs, and make recommendations to the Manager, Facilities Services;Organize and supervise the in house, and as required, contract of the grounds maintenance program;Serve as Acting Manager, Facilities Services whenever so designated by the Manager, Facilities;Monitors and manages facility projects (including contractors) to ensure successful completion;Organize in house and as required contract of snow removal;Organize in house and as required contract of parking lots repairs and sweeping;Organize in house and as required contract of repairs to sidewalks, parking lots and fences;Monitor contracted out custodial services and make recommendations to the Manager, Facilities Services as required;As applicable, coordinate the employment process in conjunction with the Human Resources Department;As a member of the Facilities Services administration team, undertake administrative functions and projects as assigned to support the Manager, Facilities Services;Monitor and manage the school divisions playground inspection program;Other duties as assigned by the Manager, Facilities Services.
