The Opportunity

The City of St. Albert is recruiting an individual to join our Emergency Services department as a Fire Prevention Officer.

Reporting to the Fire Marshal, the Fire Prevention Officer is responsible for the following:
  • Conducting inspections for public, commercial, industrial and assembly buildings for fire protection equipment effectiveness
  • Addressing any conditions liable to cause fire determined in inspections
  • Processing permit applications, issuing approvals, preparing written orders and corresponding with a variety of stakeholders both internal and external
  • Participating in the design, implementation, and evaluation of City programs to instruct the public about fire life safety, including home fire safety programs.
  • Developing and delivering fire prevention and inspection training for City employees.
  • Conduct fire investigations to determine cause and origin.

Qualifications

  • Fire Inspector Group B Level 1
  • Fire Investigator Group C Level 1

The Fire Prevention Officer is eligible for the following training:
  • Fire Inspector Group B Level 2
  • Fire Investigator Group C Level 2

Hours of Work

We offer a schedule of seventy-two (72) hours bi-weekly consisting of nine (9) hours per day, and eight (8) working days in each two-week period.

Compensation

The successful incumbent will be required to complete a 12-month probationary period compensated at $111,383.42 per annum.

Upon successful completion of the 12-month probationary period, the incumbent will be eligible for a step increase in pay, as per the collective bargaining agreement.
