Family Law Assistant

Lift Legal is looking to hire a part-time legal assistant to join our friendly and collaborative boutique firm in St. Albert. We practice Corporate Law, Residential Real Estate, Wills and Estates and non-litigation Collaborative Family Law and Mediation. You would report directly to Mel Garbe. Mel is an experienced family lawyer and mediator who is committed to helping his clients handle legal issues respectfully and constructively, with minimal court involvement.

The ideal candidate has at least one year of family law experience, is highly motivated, takes initiative and is customer/client-service oriented. If you are a team player, highly organized and have strong attention to detail, this role could be for you.

Duties and Responsibilities/Position Overview:

  • Administrative tasks including file management and organization; drafting routine correspondence related to family law matters, data entry, preparing legal documents, maintaining conflicts database, and client relationship management;
  • Drafting and filing divorce documents;
  • Organizing and understanding financial disclosure, preparing first drafts of Property Statements;
  • Calendar management including coordinating and scheduling of meetings and mediations;
  • Communicating with other legal assistants, paralegals, lawyers and clients on file progress both internally and externally

Requirements:

  • Post Secondary Diploma or Certificate from an accredited school is an asset;
  • An interest in the basic principles and practice of family law;
  • Junior to intermediate knowledge of a wide range of practice & software technology used in a typical legal environment such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint, OneDrive, and Adobe;
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills;
  • Experience in Wills and Estates and/or a desire to learn would be considered an asset.

Salary will be commensurate with skills and experience.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $31,000.00-$45,500.00 per year

Expected hours: No less than 25 per week
